Default INTERCOOLER DILEMA!

02 bugeye wrx. Having the car mapped by Andy F with full decat, sti pinks and hybrid turbo. My dilema is what to do with the intercooler:

Leave standard

Uprate to bar and plate

upgrade to sti

I have been offered an sti intercooler from a bugeye sti. Is there a difference between this one and the v8 sti intercooler which seem to be the popular upgrade?



All advice welcomed.

What's a bar and plate?

STi intercooler was the same throughout the newage cars I believe? But I may be wrong.

what's your power goals ?

the STi cooler is a good step , but if your planning on 360+ bhp then go for a FMIC

andy will certainly give you the right advice

All advice welcomed.
For the Sti 8 intercooler to work most effectively, you'll also need a the bigger bonnet scoop and the Sti undertray. It's a cheaper option than the FMIC and it works to 400bhp +

BUT

It's not as effective at keeping charge temps down as a good FMIC like the hybrid and it won't eliminate the problems of heat soak and sustained high speed cruising associated with the TMIC.

Pal of mine bought an ebay topmount and took it to Scoobyclinic....

Who said you shouldn't have bothered ! wasted £250 !

P.S. STI top mount will do for up to 360 bhp on a new-age.... mine's headed for 400 bhp, hence my up-grade....
