Default FEW PROBLEMS!!!

just wondering if some1 could help me,by answering a couple of questions...i currently have a 300 bhp classic impreza, clutch has started to slip so i assume it needs a new clutch.....and i have been told that to buy it and fix it could cost up to £600 (uprated clutch) does this sound right??
also car has started to overheat,i topped up the water, and thought i had cured it.only the next day it started agen....during high speeds the temp is fine but i assuem thats because cold air is rushing through the scoop and cooling engine down...but when i stands still it starts to climb to over 3/4 on the temp gauge...it was also blowing cold air wen it shud have been hot through the heaters....plus for a small amount of time (few minutes) i had white smoke from the exhaust but that seemed to subside wen i topped the water up AGAIN! so could this be the thermostat.head gasket that is on its way out or a leaking water pipe??

plz help ...thanks

First of £600 for an up rated clutch and fitting would be about right depending on clutch it could well be more.

Regarding the over heating, If you need to keep topping the water up, it’s either leaking out via pipes ect externaly or if not it's going via the head gasket.

Have a pressure test done to be sure.

I have a 320bhp classic and run on a standard clutch. Been over a year with the increased power and no problems. I don't rag the **** off the car though.

he didnt mention wot make of clutch...im thinking ill just get a standard clutch, i mean it shud be able to cope with an extra 20-30 bhp,if it was more around 400 bhp i wud get a much better clutch, its the overheatin that is worrying me because there are a number of reasons y it cud be overheatin,i just dnt kno which 1

As said above if you need to keep "filling the header tank" the water is either leaking out externally or you have a possible head gasket problem. If it’s not going down then the most likely cause is thermostat, air lock or pump.

Either way I would get this sorted before shopping for a clutch.

as said sort out the water leak first, maybe leaking hose etc or much worse, if head gasket will need to strip it back and rebuild it to stop the crank bearings failing, if you do strip it then you'll save the fitting cost of the clutch at least cos they wont have to drop the box to do it. so get that sorted first.

dpepnds if you have the crank bearings replaced or not.

you could end up needing a full rebuild after 300 miles if they are dmaged and not replaced
