Default help knocking noise

one off the mates was coming off the slip road last night in his wagon when all off a sudden he started getting a very loud knocking noise .

engine was rebuilt month ago and is fully run in . not had any probs up untill last night when this happend. it sorta sounds like its coming from the gearbox area . there is no misfire and goes up the revs ok . its not lost oil or water . when driving home last night from the mates (1mile tops) the oil warning light came on and it cut out.(still no oil loss)...

i dont think its the bottom end as it sounds nothing like his last engine (bottom end went)

just looking for some pointers/where to start looking ..

hope this makes some sence

hears a wee vid im thinking bottom end now yeh ?

found out last night that he did not get a new oil pump when he rebuilt it thought this was a must (done the rebuild himself)... when i found out about the oil pump i told him that with the rest componets in the engine being new that the oil pump has not been able to take it and give up the ghost.

im thinking oil pump failing and the bottom end has went (im no expert)... what you think could i be right

thanks guys

sounds like your spot on about the pump taking out the bottom end, possibly shards of old worn crank or bearing in the old oil pump. That is a serious no no when rebuilding an engine, cutting costs and corners just leads to more tears in the end.For he sake of 170 quid for an uprated pump its gonna cost him another 700-1000 if he rebuilds it himself.
