As above, year is important. Early phase 1 cars (MY93/94 etc) were around in Japan before they had 100RON so its not that import... i ran my old MY93 WRX for 2 years on 95RON, it lasted me another 4 years after that on super (i used any) and is still going strong. Phase 2 cars (MY99/00) i'd run on the best fuel you can find in your area, V Power or T99.

I used Tesco99 when I first got the Impreza.... but after reading here that most seem to use V-Power I have moved over to that and found it to be great.... the pickup on the car seems to have improved slightly over the Tesco fuel, even the wife said the car felt better when she drove it and she wouldn't have a clue what fuel was in it!
Dont consider BP Ultimate its pants IMO

I have a 07 hawkeye wrx. At first I used tesco 99 and then Vpower. Vpower is 1p a litre more but worth it, the pickup is alot better and when I used Tesco 99 I was geeting around 20-30 miles less per tank. IMHO Vpower has a better pickup and the engine feels alot smoother

Recent testing of mine:
Same map on the ECU.
Same Wideband O2 sensor
Tesco 99 shows 11.16 AFR
Vpower shows 10.8:1 AFR
Tesco is blended with 5% bioethanol to raise the octane along with other benefits but from what I read it is blended on a lower quality base fuel to Shell VPower.
I think the short answer about which is best depends on what your car is mapped for.
If it is mapped on vpower and you then run tesco 99 it will be leaning and may not like it.
If it is mapped on Tesco 99 and you run vpower it will run richer and you probably wont notice a difference.
I have to be honest and say I cannot notice a difference in either performance or ecomony with either fuel, nor knocking or any kind of retardation on the ecu though countless hours of datalogging.
I just wouldnt put anything in apart from these two unless desperate or using scottimax
