if you want a small increase, say 20-30 bhp, get your car remapped.

or if you have a bigger budget, add a bigger turbo and have it mapped...

ooo, id say personally a td05-20g or a vf28. vf28 turbos can go second hand on here for about £300-350, plus a remap of about £7-750, but youll get over 300bhp with the right mapper safely. i think the import wagons of your age only came with a piddily small td04 turbo, so not much lag on them.

depends how high you wanna go, but the higher you do, the more weiry you have to be about supporting mods, ie upgrading oil/fuel pumps, internals after certain powers.

thats all above my head, but is assume on a wrx, 300-330 on standard internals shouldnt pose a problem. hopefully someone else on here can be more definitive, so dont take my advice as gospel.

welcome to scoobynet, also referred to as "the wallet drainer"

theyre not fantastic, but unless your going for serious power (say 330+), i wouldnt bother. you could alays go for an sti top mount intercooler. slightly bigger, better air flow. front mounts ive heard can cause more turbo lag, but again, that isnt gospel. but if your looking into a remap along with supporting mods, id have thought this could be sorted with a reputable mapper...

bob rawle
andy forrest
pat hepburn

but i need my gearbox sorting out first (probable rebuild), and then maybe my noisy tappets. you'll learn from your stay here, my cars generally cursed, or its maybe just me

Improving the brakes may be a better first step.
Remap for an early wrx requires this Enduring Solutions Limited which scoobyclinic deal with.

may as well let scoobyclininc do the whole thing for you as i doubt it would work out cheaper.

you can add another 100BHP with the TD-05 turbo you have. But to get there you will have to upgrade everything else

What you upgrade next will depend on a large extent to where you want to end up power wise.

I advise you to speak to a reputable subaru mapping expert (plenty on here). They will advise you what parts are needed to achieve your desired BHP and drivability factors.

You are some way from requiring a new turbo at 260BHP.
