Default Air Filter and MAF worries.....

Hi All,

I have just bought a Pipercross Panel Air Filter. Am a bit concerned about fitting based on the oil affecting the MAF sensor.

The seller of the filter recommended not putting oil on the filter and run it dry, but this I am sure will affect filtration!!

What do you think?

Firstly what year is your car as 1998-2000 MAF's are the only real dodgy ones. I wouldn't run it dry if it is supposed to be oiled. Just make sure its not over oiled, follow the manufacturers instructions and you’ll be fine.

Yeah, just be careful with the oil.

Did mine & oil was a problem for a while MAF didn't like it.

No oil = problem,

too much oil = problem!

THe oil has to go somewhere.

Go onto K&N Filter Website, good advice there.

Good Luck!

Come to think of it.... I had a Pipercross in mine and it was a dry type filter. You sure yours needs oiling?

Not sure, it came with an oil spray. I think it is not worth the risk!!

Wish I knew about the MAF issue before I bought it...

Cheers

You've just answered my question, it's an oiled type. Just follow the instructions and it'll work fine. Or, sell it and get a dry type filter if you are worried. TBH the standard STI filter is well up to the job.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this by the "you can't clean them people" but If you get oil on your MAF you can use electical switch cleaner to clean it.

(SWITCH CLEANER)

I know a few people who have used this with no problems.
