Default Oil Feed Question

Had a VF 28 pack up a couple of weeks ago.

No power, AM Dump valve not working.

Found the Blades had seize up.

Tons of Black Oil in the intercooler, drained it all off.

A VF41 was fitted 2 weeks ago.

Tonight, same all power gone AM Dump Valve not working.

HTF it's not another Turbo gone.

Does any one have any ideas?

Should the Garage have checked where all the oil wa coming from?

Is the oil Feed (if it is that, an easy thing to fix)??

Thanks for any advice.

Regards

Thats some bad luck mate.

No sound from the dump valve would tie in with no power i.e. no boost.

To be fair the garage will have assumed it was a fudged turbo and I've never heard of a failed oil feed but I guess anything is possible.

If you remove the oil fedd and crank the engine (don't start it) you shoild see oil squirting out, so have a rag ready. If no oil comes out then that would be the problem. It's unlikely but if it does it's an engine out job.

Best of luck with it.

Thanks Play Satan.

HTF it's not.

The Mapper said that when he remapped it last week that he felt something mechanical was restricting it from giving it's full potential??

Any way back to the Garage first thing.

On the Oil being all over the Intercooler, do you think that sounds right?
Regards.

A little is common but more of a coating than it running out.

Ask the garage about the history of the "new" turbo in case they've sold you a pup.

If there was a complete blockage the second turbo would have died in no time, i doubt this is the case.

I would expect the black oil would have come from the compressor housing due to the bearings over heating and burning the oil and then passing the seals. The other option for black oil would be coming up via the combustion chamber on vacuum

The feed its self is relatively straight forward > head > Banjo Restrictor > oil pipe >Turbo. You have a restrictor at the turbo and the banjo bolt also has a restrictor the size will vary down to .08mm. If there was a restriction of sorts I would expect the banjo bolt end you may also find a small filter inside the bolt its self depending on what banjo you have installed check this.

YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT IT WAS!!!

Went to the Garage today, went through all the elimaination stuff etc.
It was the Cat in the Up Pipe!!

Yesterday a large chunk off the CAT got stuck in the impellors & stopped it!!

Over the last 12 months on the VF28 SMALL bits werebeing sucked into the Blower & eventually knackered the seals/bearngs.

Put on a new Up Pipe with no Cat, great!

No hesitation straight through.

The whistling wasn't the Turbo, it was the Honeycombs on the Cat when the Air Pressure was forced through it.

Garage were brilliant!!

7 hours at it off and on, uppipe no Cat fitted, £150!!

Bargain/Result!!

Also you could do with oil and filter change after the first instance if you haven’t already.

In for a major service with them next week.

Oil will be changed plus an engine flush/petrolflush treatment.

Filter is a cotton one not a paper one so shouldn't requitre changing.

As you say, I was very lucky.

Thanks for your advice all.

Regards
