TDO518G v vf28
is it worthwhile changing my vf 28 to a TD05 18g,am i likely to see any benefits, looking for 350ish bhp but more importantly a low 12 sec quarter mile time, bottom end should have no probs with arrow/omega/acl etc

iv got a sti type r v5 with the vf28 turbo and im running 274 bhp atw,,,
i think thats about 345 atf
so i cant see any reson you need to spend your cash on a td05
you might aswell go fo a turbo that can go to 400+ as you always want more after a month or so
stu

i think 350 bhp will only see you in the 12.4/12.5 times
if you want 12.1/12.2 and below ,i think your going to have to go down the md/sc/garatt turbo route
stu
ps,,,ill let you know the next time i go to york drag way and let you know my times
im also looking at turbo/injectors/ppg next year ,,then i should be 450 bhp
and in the low 11's (hopefully)

While it is very early days with my 20G coming from the factory VF28, I am enjoying it thoroughly. While the boost does seem to be moved up the rev range a bit (VF28 is a far better all round turbo imo, once she is 'in the zone'), the car pulls really hard right up to the redline. I never used to ever hit the rev limiter but I hit it 3 or 4 times at the weekend alone as the car just charges! I have adjusted my driving accordingly as the rev limiter makes me grimace, don't like hitting that at all.

Just as an alternative... keep the vf28, and the nice, quick spool, and get it mapped for a 10% methanol/ v.power mix.
You've got to get it mapped, whatever you do.
The methanol can be had for 64p/litre...as you are replacing petrol at £1+ litre you're slightly reducing the cost of a fill up.
This should be worth 20-30bhp on a like for like set up and see the little vf pushing 350+ and great response with supporting mods.
