Default 2.5ltr engine conversion experts - Please help!!

I have just brought an Sti 2.5ltr AVCS engine from the US. The company i have brought it from were under the impression that it would be fairly simple to fit into my 1995 WRX.
I assumed i would be able to transfer my manifolds, fuelrail and injectors to the new engine. I have just had a convocation with Gavin Beck at Tracktive which would indicate these bits wont fit the 2.5l AVCS long block.

Is this the case? If it is, what extra bits will i need?!

Also what wiring loom/sensor issues will i have? Obviously i wont be able to control the AVCS but im hoping a Hydra ECU will solve this issue.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

not an expert but you would need to swap over the heads as the manifolds line up differently etc, you will also need the correct sized head gaskets for yours.

if you got it for a good price, maybe better of selling it complete as a avcs unit and buying a 2.5 shortblock from the uk (will still need the same your heads swapping over etc, but could get a bit of money back)

This is turning into a bit of an ****. Problem is the engine has been rebuilt with cp pistons and cosworth rods/bearings. Not quite sure what to do!

If they didn't know that my95 Inlet manifold wouldn't fit on the 2.5L I would deffo have the engine checked to see if it has the uprated internals.

You can make this work, you need the ecu, loom, complete manifold with all sensors, injectors etc.

The complete engine will be so much better than putting your heads on as the early WRX heads are very restrictive in comparison, is a bit of a headache, but would be worth the effort.

The exhaust studs on the Cylinder heads are in the same position so your existing Manifold & uppipe will be fine.

How hard is it to fit a phase2 inlet manifold / rails and adjust the loom ?

Can a ph1 throttle body be adapted to fit a ph2 manifold?

Having looked into this myself, if you have a phase 1 car then the way forward is to get hold of some sti3 or sti 4 heads and bolt them onto the short block. Everything else is then retained as it was origionally. Its not really worth messing about with wiring looms, chaning manifolds and sensors ect unless your hell bent on doing it as a special project that means an awful lot to you. phase 2 heads from a sti 5/6 will give you a similar headache to the AVCS ones.

Thanx so much for the info guys. I spoke to the engine builders last night. They have given me a couple of options. One of which is to just send the block without heads which would seem the most sensible option.

Just to confirm the 2ltr early heads (ether WRX or sti) will fit without any work?

If i do go for this do you guys know what thickness the head gasket i would need? Any suggestions on make? I would very much like this engine to stay together so i don’t want to scrimp on bits like this

Yes, your heads will fit without issue. depending on pistons, you would need the thick 1.6mm head gasket.

Piston spec needs to be confirmed before you choose your head gasket.

Luke,

didn't you get the email ? and you need to include the dish volume, which you said was 21cc.

im in the US and i have swaped an ej257 long block into my 02 wrx, I reused my intake manifold, throttle body, injectors and used the wire harness off my 02 wrx. I had a problem when remapping my ecu w/ enginuity, my engine load went off the scope of the ecu, so i had it rescaled, but still my car doesnt want to run correctly. The problem now is that when i hit 4500rpm the boost drops to zero. any insight why this may happen?
