all easy to fit.. the td05 16g is standard has a top entry cover so needs replacing with a front entry one.. but other than that straight forward.
td05 is slightly better imho but it is personal preference.. vf's are fairly cheap, the VF35 or 34 being best of the bunch for this sort of level imho

You'll get better spool with the VF28, the VF22 is on a par with the TD05 for spool. I ran a VF24 which is very similar to the 28 and it was a great unit, +ve boost pressure at around 2600 rpm, 1 bar at about 3200rpm and 1.3 bar (max) at 3500rpm. It was a very smooth, gradual unit, not like the TD05 which tends to deliver it's boost with a solid wallop.
The VF series typically run at a little less boost than the TD05 as they are bit more fragile, this in turn will mean a little less torque and subsequent strain on 5spd box, which before 03 were also a bit fragile.

vf28 or vf35 (sti 7/8)
don,t bother with the vf22 its to big for a uk engine and is well laggy.
i had a vf 24 on a 97 uk car with headers zorst filter etc running 1.2 bar and it was quick with supurb spool up, the above turbos mentioned (vf28 vf35)have simualar charactoristics.

i have a 98classic with newish 2.5 block, gems ecu, and vf22 turbo which has started putting oil out on let off,
vf22 good turbo
parts to rebuild=0
TD05= cheap+front entry conversion
after market repair kits=cheap
vf34, ultimate =££££££££££
safest bet = TD05, then put 18g wheel

Granted has a reputation for destroying gearbox's,but can be mapped in a friendly manner to negate that trait....... gives a satisfying result though when driven as intended, and mine has been sound for the last 12 months and going for bigger injectors and more boost soon.... 18g an option too
Vf series are fragile at times,td05 is a hardy little unit that will run and run

i have been offered a vf28 on here for £250. im seeing the TD05's on ebay cheap! which will drive better and feel more alive? my first impreza (v1 sti) was standard as far as im aware and it was like a rocket, not sure what turbo that had on it. i was the first uk owner, so unless it was messed with in japan it was only 260 bhp. just really kicked you into your seat when the boost came in.

It is also bar the tiny little td04 the fastest spooling turbo available !!

I was tempted by one of the cheap 'big power' TD05's on Ebay but after asking around and checking on here a lot I decided against it. I would suggest you chuck a fiver Scoobynet's way and gain access to the proper search facility amongst other things. What is the seller name on Ebay?

I've just brought a Td05 16g from him.
There up for £395 and offers.
Offered him £300 which he excepted, brand new, good delivery time, no complaints.
Please don't tell me its a FAKE.

I ran a VF 22 on my JDM WRX classic, with good results. Some people have mentioned reliability problems, but I never had an issue with reliability even running 1.45Bar which was the max recommended boost. With supporting mods I made a safe 320Bhp and with a bit of tweaking could possibly squeezed a bit more. May be a bit laggy, but you find you can drive around it
