Tick over noise..?
Recently noticed a noise on tick over (usually just after a bit of a blast), that I first thought was the Walbro whining as usual. However, it isn't as it's coming from engine bay and sounds a bit like a muffled dot matrix printer (for those of you old enough to have used one..
) Not all the time, a bit on and off, then nothing at all..
Have also noticed for some time, that when I turn the engine off I get a squeak just as the engine stops completely. Again not every time..
I'm begining to wonder if one of the ancillaries is on it's way out, any thoughts..?

Heat shield possibly, as it would fit in with circumstances, ie expands due to heat soak shortly after a blast and at idle for a few seconds there would no cooling entering the engine bay..!
As the noise is intermittent at the moment I don't think it's valve train noise.
It's a little like the noise a small electric motor (scalectrix- sp?) makes when they're on their way out, although very quite (I doubt I'd hear it with windows open and I'm yet to get it where I can stand over engine to have a proper listen).
Given that something gives an occasional squeak, just as engine stops, I'm thinking towards water pump/alternator bearing on it's way out.
Isn't effected by increasing load on alternator though, nor do I think it's PS pump for similar reasons.
Goung to have a listen around from cold with stethescope later to see if it's anything obvious.
One other possibility could be an occasionally noisy injector, although it doesn't sound right for that IMHO.
