Default Turbocharger

Hi,

I have a uk 97 impreza wagon 2000 awd turbo, i think it currently has a TD04??? am i right??

what would be the best upgrade i.e better standardish turbo for straight forward replacement and no other modification??
im not going crazy and heading for masses and masses of power but just want something bigger that will go str8 on my car with no hassle and make it a bit quicker.

all info and help appreciated in advance .

if u want you can get a TD05 - 16f or a vf34 or vf 35 turbo however you will need a remap if u go to the route changing your turbos.

VF28 from a P1 is a good upgrade, fairly cheap and should see you past 300bhp

But I think you may need a different ECU but I could be wrong

As its pre '99 you cannot Ecutek it - have to be something like an Apexi FC.

If you are only after mild gains, don't bother changing the turbo.

If you just change exhaust & panel filter and remap you will see approx. 270-280bhp, with very early spool-up due to the small TD04.

This is what I did over a year ago, and with 273bhp & 273lbft it makes for a very rapid car on the roads I drive on - mainly town with the odd dual cariageway blast.

yep, thats what i shall do then, ive got an exhaust sorted fully decatted, im going go get the headers ported later too.

ive just done a full engine service on the car and replaced the dirty panel filter with a new oem one, will this suffice or do i need an induction kit??? if not what sort of panel filter do you recommend?

cheers

Stay away from induction kits....... pointless for power outputs under 350 as the standard airbox is not that restrictive and a cone filter will just suck up hot air which does nothing for power, uprated panel filter in the standard air box is the ticket,Apexi, sti, green k+n all do decent panel filters.
