Upgrade Turbocharger Suggestions.......
#1
My scoob has a stock vf28. it is a wrx v5 with stock internals, everything else has been modified apart from the turbocharger. I want to have power in the region of 350-370 bhp , and the way forward is to upgrade the turbo. Which turbocharger, do you reckon I should buy? I prefer a bolt on unit with actuator instead of external wastegate. Which ones are good for that sort of power?
Thanks in advance.

When you say "everything else has been modified" does this include ECU, fuel pump, and injectors ?

Sorry R19, no injectors or pump, forgot that. But will get the necessary ones, depending on the flow characteristics of the turbo.
Car has:
air cleaner
downpipe
3" exhaust
electronic boost controller
oil cooler
equal lenght manifold 4-2-1
management
JUN flywheel
fmic to be fitted shortly (couple of weeks)

Hmm, not an expert but would have thought you'd need strengthened conrons and stronger pistons if you want the sort of boost that goes with those power levels. Maybe an STi engine would be a better place to start? You could buy one, have it developed, mapped etc, then swap the engines over and sell the WRX one. Or just buy an STi... or not. I'll be off now then

thought of that mate.... but the only difference between the two engines is the pistons. Subaru's weakest link are the rods. I am aware of many scoobs that run 350 bhp with stock internals, so i will give it a shot and see how it goes... I may upgrade when the engine is blown

Hello there harvey, it's a JUN item, I paid a grand for it, although it was purchased from abroad. As far as I know Jun is the only manifold that has truly equal lenghts from cylinders. Lost low down torque (probably that's due to the exhaust system and not to the manifold), but gained significantly in mid range and top end power. The third gear pulls like the first Expect to see gains above 4000rpm in the region of 12-15 bhp
