Default FMIC thoughts please.

I am in the market to finally put a fmic onto my53 STI type uk. My question to you all is this..
What do people recommend I buy? There are alot of fmic's out there that are very resonably priced. Is it worth buying expensive or do they all do a good enough job?

Looking to take it to bout the 350-380 mark eventually mate. Was woundering whether to just upgrade the tmic but the front ones just look so much better, plus its got to be better for the cooling aint it?

I went for the Perrin FMIC as i could not be doing with the heat soak no longer, you would be getting a little more lag if you go for it mate

standard STi intercooler on the 53 is perfectly fine for beyond that.. save money for more needed mods..

after running a top mount and now a fornt mount i don't agree with the sticking with top mount. Mine no longer feels sluggish on hot days, and its made no difference to the lag at all. (bear in mind this is on a classic though and an aftermarket turbo)

Tiggy.... every time someone mentions front mount LAG turns up. I changed from my00 top mount to front mount and wished i had done it years ago. No lag no heat soak. Agree with jolly, you have already got a sti top mount so spend your hard earnt on something else.

Disagree with the above. Had a TMIC and went FMIC plus remap by the best mappers in the UK. Couldn't live with the extra lag, which actually made the car slower through the gears on the road. Reverted back to TMIC and the throttle response is now instant again. No heat soak issues either and I'm running a tad over 400bhp. Next year is a built engine and over 450bhp. I'll be staying TMIC

Have to agree with lunar tick, swapped to a fmic on my v5 type r, and after 12mths. swapped back to a sti8 tmic... you can't beat response on a road car IMO.

The sti8 tmic has been proven to be a more than capable set up at 400+ thats why Litchfield give a 3yr warranty on the type 25.

Also, the money saved on a fmic set up, will make a big dent, in the cost of a nice md321h

only car i know running over 450 with a top mount is the gaffers 22b, and even he admits it sufferes on a hot day, and thats running a huge hyperflow top mount.

if you were suffering from lag and it couldn't be mapped out then i'd say there was something else wrong, were you running the standard ecu?

I've had no lag or throttle response issues with my Hyrid FMIC. I'm also running a K&N CAIK - may be that helps?

I think any small loss in throttle response (if you had some) would be made up with the lack of heat soak issues. Sit in traffic for 5 or 10 minutes, or with Aircon on and then blast away with no heat soak.

I've also lagged the cold pipe running to the throttle body with reflective heat shield for complete heat soak protection

These are what you need. Quality stuff.

Owen Developments - Online Catalogue

I can't remember which size you need, but the size is written on the Hybrid clamps.

I'm running a large Hyperflow TMIC and CAIK. If I were to use the car for drag stuff or hard track work on a regular basis I would go FMIC as it's true there's less heatsoak. However, once on the road (I live somewhere where I'm lucky to have plenty of open deserted roads ) and through the gears, it's hard to beat the response of a TMIC, even if it makes a tad less power.

Cheers for all the advice guys, think I might spend my money on other things. BTW, what do you suggest. at the moment, the set up is as follows:

Fuel pump upgrade, Blitz SUS filter, Blitz NUR-Spec R, de-cat pipe (only Middle cat), Greddy profec-B boost controller set at 0.8 bar(low) and 1.15 Bar(high).

My thoughts now are, de-cat down pipe (with or without high flow cat?), re-map(need someone to recommend a good place, will travel).

Intend on ringing TSL today for similar advice
