Default remapping a ppp sti..worth it?

hi. i have a standard 02 sti ppp and was wondering if it is worth getting a remap done on it. is there likely to be any real advantages/gains if i had a tek 3? just that was expecting a big difference between this car and my old one , a 99 uk 2000 turbo that was remapped by simon, on the standard td04,but to be honest, it doesnt feel as fast!!

corr what a quote!! I can make your 99uk quicker than an 02 STi ppp lol..

Of course there is advantages in remapping it.. but then perhaps you could argue I would say that.. lol

Martin

There is a lot of redundancy built into the newage sti cars...even if PPP'd !!

They should have left the factory near on 300 BHP and near as dammit 300 torque !!

Only Simon is too shy to say LOL

Bugeye STi best / cheapest car to start to mod for road going ability

Shaun

(bought a bugeye WRX LOL )

hi simon. not sure if it actually is slower, maybe its because it is so much smoother and quieter that the classic, that it just feels like it.but i was definitely expecting a quicker car than it is. what sort of figures would a remap produce?

Had my 03STi PPP remapped (retained sports cat but fitted SC 3" middle and rear exhaust) and it is now a lot quicker everywhere. You'll need an uprated fuel pump as this wasn't included in the 02 PPP. My only regret was not getting it done sooner. Definately worth doing. BTW fuel consumption improves.

I was slightly tongue in cheek..

basically filling in the rest of the graph rather than just a peak figure, hence why the 99 felt faster, ie. better throttle response and power and torque bands wider.. Probably yeld another 15bhp but better response and better mpg due to correct fuelling.. perhaps I should do a money back if you don't feel the difference. I could also delta dash it now to give power at wheels and same again once mapped.

I had my 03 STi PPP re-mapped by Richard Bulmer (via TSL) (retaining the Prodrive exhaust) and whilst there are no gains below 3.5k I am seeing increases of 40 bhp in the before and after curves above that with similar % torque gains. Also, there is a lot less Knocklink activity which is comforting!

Default '02 Sti no PPP !

Didn't bother with PPP went straight to 340 bhp.
TSL catted system + fuel pump....

Mapped by Richard Bulmer @ Tracktive.

SOOOO SMOOOTH, and quite quick too !!!

Dunx

P.S. saved £2K on the PPP, so sod the warranty !

P.P.S. If you add in a set of decent headers, about 360 bhp but they need quite a lot of mapping !!

It probably IS slower mate. A remapped My99 on the std Td04 with supporting mods will produce the best part of 280bhp and it's much lighter than the new age Sti 1235kgs vs 1480 I believe. So the power to weight ratio of the former is better. Combine that withe the improved smoothness and sound deadening of the new age car and it all compounds the subjective impression.

NS04 has a valid point when comparing classic to newage performance...... tried a modded hawkeye that a lad at at work has, same turbo as mine but differing injectors and topmount, made over 340 when tested, mine only had one run since done which resulted in lower than expected results for everyone that was there on the day, but got 288.... now my classic does indeed feel more peppy and quicker....... the weight obviously does have a factor, but the overiding impresion i got from the latest car is the insulated feeling the driver has,the older classic feels more raw if you like, the newer cars just do what they do so well without any great fuss.

It's definitely worth getting remapped. On MY05 STi +ppp, just added an uprated STi panel filter, 3 port boost solenoid (although not strictly need) and a remap by a good mapper (Bob Rawle in my case)... and the car is a completely different animal. Comes on boost much more quickly, pulls harder in all gears and I get better fuel economy too.
