Wideband sensor and dsiplay is required. I suppose you could check the voltages from the MAF against known values.

A Wideband AFR will not tell you if your MAF is Broken, your ECU can tell you if the MAF is faulty, you have to connect the two wires which are just under the dash (drivers side), if there is a problem your CEL will give a series of Flashes.

Maf's are a known weak spot....... but not on your model year, later versions 99/00 are prone to fail, yours should be very robust...... what are the symptoms to make you sspect the maf?

You can't just wire in an 'afr' you need to weld a boss into the exhaust, fit the sensor into that and then plug and play the readout.

Indeed, but the reading is gumpf from a two point sensor as that has a very steep responce curve through circa Lambda one (most are actually symmetrical about Lambda 1.02) with them reading their reach or lean voltage but within less than 0.05 Lambda.

If you plug them into a wideband sensor they will make a bit more sense!
