Default Check Engine Light

hi,

i recentlly had a head gasket problem. i had it replaced and at the same time i had the heads cleaned and valve gaps cheacked and corrected...

the enginee is much more stable and running quite well.

but for the past few days the check engine light is comming up when i'm doing a climbing about 10% degree and in 5th gear...

stange!

the same road on 4th and nothing appears. on 5th the light appears.
nothing sounds stange.

what might be the problem?

What model and year car is it?

Some you can do a test to see for yourself what is causing it.

I would say that either your MAF or Lamda needs replaced or maybe both.
A diagnostic will throw up the fault code. However, your symptons matched mine in my MY99 and it was MAF followed slightly afterwards by Lamda.
Approx £100 each

I have the same sorta problem on mine.....if I'm in 5th taking it easy up a slight hill, my check engine light sometimes comes on. It's always in the same geographical place too, which I find weird!! Like it only ever happens on these 3 hills I drive on lol I can pretty much predict when it's gonna come on! My car was in with subaru for a service and I mentioned this to them so they plugged her into the computer and it showed that it was the oxygen sensor that had been bringing the check engine light on. They said it was nothing to worry about, and gave me a lovely explanation of why it was happening (which made perfect sense at the time).....but I'm buggered if I can remember it now!

It only ever seems to happen when I'm in 5th going up a hill.....but strangely enough it happened to be lastnight on my way out (on one of the usual 3 hills).....but this time I was in 4th!! That's never happened before lol, but it was the same exact spot on the hill.....that's what I don't get?!? Anyway, subaru said it's nothing to worry about like. I used to get it when I first bought the car, and everything on it was 100% standard aubaru then......and now I still get it and have changed the filter, downpipe & centre section......so yeah.....I'm not too bothered about it like. It just goes off a few minutes down the road like

I don't think my ecu has ever been reset, I'm not sure? When I took it to subaru and they had it on the diagnostic machine that said it was the oqygen sensor that was the problem......they said they cleared all the previous error codes.....but I don't think that's resetting the ecu. It didn't help anyway, cuz it still happens. Will be interesting to see if it still happens after the remap I plan to do in a month or two
