AVC-r will allow fine tuning of solenoid duty cycle across RPM range, allowing for finer control of boost. It lets you set target boost and duty cycle across RPM range, so that you can stop things like overshoot and tail off.

It also has features that allow it to "learn" the boost profile in gears (although I think many people turn this off) and set start duties in each gear so target is hit.

It has two boost profiles you can setup - typically a "hard driving" setting set for max boost and a more sensible setting you can use on rainy days to avoid wheelspin

That's just a quick summary - it's a very good piece of kit but it does require some knowledge to setup and tweak.

Thanks RA95 so its worth the money then,do you know if it works with all model apexi fc,s ie the commander needs to be matched up with the correct model fc unit is it the same with the boost controller?

The AVC-r and Power FC can work together or independantally, theres no particualr model matching up required.

THe AVC-r is near enough a universal fit, you just need a certain loom.

so i will have to buy the loom seperatley then? Will the boost controller do away with the map sensor or will i have to upgrade that as well? Sorry on a steep learning curve

what year is the car?

the AVC-R comes with everything to fit to the car..

the standard set up on the car uses a boost solenoid to control the boost and a map sensor to detect the current boost level.
The AVC-R comes with both those, you replace the boost solenoid with the AVC-R boost solenoid and then add the MAP sensor and retain the original map sensor.. for monitoring and overboost (depending on year).

If you have a 93~96 car then the powerfc will be restricted to 1bar of boost, hence the need for a boost controller, the AVC-R is one of the best out there but there are cheaper ways of sorting your problem.. the Apexi Boost control kit of just the map sensor from it for one, a manual boost controller etc..
Just depends on your budget or intension.

lol

basically you need another form of boost control... depending on you budget you can do that with a manual boost controller, replacement map sensor or an electronic boost controller.. best of which being the Apexi AVC-R but also the most expensive.

Ive got an AVCR on mine and its one of the best things I have bought. The ability to set the boost profile correctly is the best way to get the max out of the current setup (as mentioned above).

They are realtively easy to fit and setup, once you know what you are doing.

Having a mapper such as Simon set it up along with the PFC is the best way imho. I had my PFC mapped and then fitted the AVCR. The result was that I have had to tweak the map when raising the boost midrange.

Wayne.
