Default cam timing out

just changed water pump (other threads) and I got my timing lined up but the right hand side looking from the front of the engine the top pully is out by about 2 teeth. could this cause a turbo to come in late?

I will sort it on re assembly but just wondering.

Also whats the best way to sort out the tensioner as in re tension it?

cheers

it could cause lots of problems, valve contact etc, just make sure it is right when re-fitted.

press the tensioner back in, put a pin through it and release when everything is timed up correctly

whats the best way of pressing the tensioner back in though, its seems solid, even though it moved when I loosened it whilst it was on the block

a g-clamp should help, or push on a hard surface

G-clamp or a vice to compress it. But do it slowly and not all in one movement as this may blow the seals on it.

tensioner isnt moving at all, it will only rotate if you know what I mean, tried putting my weight on it, havent got access to a clamp with I am sure 17 stone should move it!!

Also think I have messed up big style with cam timing, the cam puleys are lined up (apart from the top keft which is about 2 teeth out) however the crank pulley mark is in approx the 3 o clock position, is it just a matter of making sure the heads are off cam (valves closed) and rotate the crank so it lines up?

Also anyone know of anywhere in manchester where I will be able to get hold of a tensioner that works!!

Dont mean to butt in,
Make sure both pulleys dont move round at the same time with the cambelt off because the valves will hit each other and can bend.

Ive been looking for a set of cam locking tools for my 52 jdm bugeye sti but cannot seem to find a set, does any one have any idea if they exsist.

Good luck with your car, hope all goes well.

all done and dusted, starts fine and revs freely no clanging noises. Just need a thermostat now as mine is buggered!

Big thanks again to 500 for helping out
