What grade oil???
What grade oil is the best to use in my 93 wrx? Also what make, just off the shelf stuff really???
I did any oil an filter not to long ago but think they oil i was recomended was to thin, also the tappits/lifters are a little tappy could i use slightly thicker oil to quieten them a bit as it just spoils the car really, might even be because of the oil used last time as it never seemed to do it before.
Cheers.

You can't go wrong with Helix Ultra. light oils like 5W are only recommended for the brief period where you are running in a new scoob engine if memory serves, then move on to 10w40/10w50 for normal use. I can't actually remember if I am on 40 or 50 helix but it works

Helix ultra IS 5w-40!
That is fine anyway as 10w-40 is the same as 5w-40 WHEN HOT!
The 10w /5w bit only refers to the COLD viscosity.
If you think its too thin, feel free to drop in a 10w-50 oil, although beware of 15w-50 in colder weather.
Wouldn't reccomend 10w-60 unless the car is used extreme operating conditions (driven by a loon) or the car is running VERY high BHP (or if the engine is worn out and you want to compensate for excessive bearing clearances ).
(beware that Helix Ultra is also marketed as 0w-30 and 5w-30...do not use those grades! Helix ultra 5w-40 is ok : it must be 40 grade or 50 grade - as mentioned above)

They keep changing it LOL...like Castrol do with Magnatec and Edge/RS/SLX
It was 5w-40 until I just re-checked and found that they now also sell it under 0w-30, 5w-30 and 0w-40, so had to do a swift edit.
Beforehand, plain Helix (non ultra) was 10w-40...before than, maybe ultra was 10w-40 too.
