Default Induction Kits, recommendations

Hi all,

Looking to fit an induction kit and having read/surfed various sites I still can't make my mind up as to which one to go for.
Therefore thought I'd see if people here have any recommendations.
I've got a 1994 STI import, and am leaning towards either the APEXi one or the HKS version. Only thing thats bugging me is someone mentioned that the HS one eventually messes the MAF...

Anyone got opinions (that are going to help - )

Depends what power you want, most people only use them if you are going over 350+bhp and recommend using a good panel filter.
If you do get 1 though, the Apexi is the better one then the HKS (alleged flow rate problems), i've run a Apexi on my car for 3 years and the maf is fine (allegedly the early mafs are a bit more robust then later models)

IMHO small HKS items like filters etc are hugely overpriced 'JDM bling'. Apexi are good and can be had very cheap if you buy direct from Japan. I have a K&N cone filter on mine and it works perfectly well.

Running a HKS one on my 95 JDM , some say the filtration isnt too clever but i have had no problems what so ever. Didnt think it was too expensive.

Old pic, got a new filter element in it now

Another thing that is important is how well the IK is secured to the car if it flops all over the place that won't help the maf, with the Apexi it's securely bolted to the suspension turret and (in my piccy) bottom of the photo in the centre (and by the looks of it so is goonerbears')

Just fitted an Apexi Power Intake kit on my MY99 UK Impreza (the one with the dodgy maf) as I fitted a FMIC and the quality and ease of fit was amazing.

If you can wait for a week or two order one from Nengun Performance - Apexi, Blitz, HKS, Nismo, Greddy and other JDM Parts direct from Japan for £50 to your door or, for bit more but with great service, from Antony at Indigo-GT!

Had an A'PEXi Power Intake on mine for a couple of months now and I'm extremely happy with it, it has had the effect of upping the peak boost from 0.9 bar to 1.0 bar. Also as myblackwrx says the mounting kit you get with it is very secure, so shouldn't cause much damage to the MAF through vibrations.

thanks for all the pictures and replies so far.

Question for BlackWRX - the heatshield (noob question coming) where does that sit and do you have a picture with it in place ?

Like i said many thanks for the replies, and the URLs - i did spot Indigo GT on the net and it seemed like a good place but struggled to find any other places that were that competitive.

A friend of mine is locating a price (from JDrides) as he imports direct so hopefully ill have some decent prices later today.

Thanks
matt

basically had to make one up (no pictures i'm afraid) remodelling it at the mo.
But,looking at my piccy, it goes in a line from the nut on my strut brace to the nut at the bottom of the picture.
The actual length of the sheild is from the suspension turret (to protect from the turbo heat) all the way to front of the car (to protect from the expansion tank heat)

Had to modify the above to fit but it's not hard (got this off here but can't remember who from but thanks )

Mine's a 1996 pre-facelift, so the same shape as yours mate. The apexi kit comes with the hard pipe included to replace the resonator section, which you would need to make your filter sit in the same position as the ones pictured above. Hope that helps!

Ah,rite,gotcha,cheers.

maybe its worth me fitting some drain pipe to get rid of the resonator box LOL.

cause as it is, its bloody hard to mount and keep secure as its off centre to any of the holes for the bracket and they need to be twisted to fit.

cheers
