Default Can i visibly tell if my MAF is knackered???

Think my choice of induction kit has damaged the MAF.Have disconnected my MAF and on looking at it,the filaments look ok-2 connected to a purple coloured head.Have attempted to clean it with carb cleaner and cotton wool buds.Is there anytghing that i need to look for if it has blown or is it normally internal damage that cant be seen.Cheers

You can't plug it in when it's running, it's when you unplug it when it's running and it cuts out it's ok, and if not then it's gone.

What year car is it?

My g/f's P1 was on it's way out, highlighted itself during a RR session when it was running lean, it would hit fuel cut every now and again on full throttle. apart from that we wouldn't have known apart from when we had a hole in a piston.

Not too sure what symptoms there would have been if it got any worse.

Cold start problems can be caused by a faulty water temp sensor in the water cross pipe though

cool, thats what im worried about, not knowing any actual warning signs of lean running really, a knock sensor wouldnt help would it either ?

Yes, it should do as it runs lean, just as it would do with a bad batch of fuel

BTW the HKS induction probably caused the problem, wouldn't recommend that personally. Doesn't filter very well at all and can cause maf scaling issues.

cheers

Can also vouch for the poor filtration of the HKS Mushroom.
Mapped 2 cars within days of each other both were running mushrooms and both had seriousley dirty MAFS and were running AFR's in the 16's in the midrange.
Luckily they were early cars so a quick clean and it was fine.
