Question ECU identification

When i bought my latest Scoob i was given a spare ECU which i was told was an upgraded STI unit. But i dont wanna plug it in th my car and find out that was bollocks and break my car!

The number on the front of the unit is:
2S
22611 AC730
A18-000 D31

Anyone know what this is exactly? Opened it up and it all looks factory issue inside.

Will i gain anythin by swapping this unit with mine? I have a 1997 UK turbo 2000 with the usual bolt on mods, manifold, downpipe, de-cat, induction etc.

Many thanks.

Would it be a straight gain more power swap? Surely there must be differences between uk turbo and WRX? Found a Jap site selling one of these there, was all in japanese but i could make out GC8 WRX STI

I think the engines in the wrx and UK turbo are either the same or very similar (but don't quote me ) the difference is in the ecus running the cars. There is a lot of difference between a wrx/uk engine and an STI engine (the internals are stronger in an STI engine).
Depends how much money you want to spend on getting more power as there are a lot of remappable ecus for sale for imprezas.

I will prob go down the aftermarket ECU route but its just because this one was here and cost nothing was gonna fire it in if it was worth it. For the sake of the time it would take.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, I was googling the numbers on this ECU and this came up.

I have the exact same ECU, I got it from a breakers cheap, they told me it is off a JDM wrx and will plug straight into my UK turbo and give more boost and run safe. they told me it will disable the factory immobiliser on my 1997 uk turbo 2000 though which makes sense beause I believe JDMs dont have the immob?.

On my car as well as the factory immob, I have 2 aftermarket immobilisers, 1 is the toad ai606 cat1 alarm/immob and the secnd is unknown but I have a red bean shaped piece of plastic on my keys and whithout it the engine doesnt even turn over.

With the 2S ECU fitted in the toad immobilise is coming off and so is the red keyring one. the LEDs both show they are disarmed. The car turns over but wil not fire.

I was under the belief that this new ecu will disable my factory immob as in make it not immobilise the car, but it sems that perhaps the factory imob is working but not mobilising as it should. Do the JDM cars also have an immob, does my key have to be recoded to match the JDM ECU ?

Is there another reason it turns over but doesnt fire ?
How hard is it to bypass the factory immobiliser ?

As soon as I put the stock ECU back in the car fires on the first tun of the engine.

I realise I should buy a mapable ECu for ~£700 and spend £400+ having it set up, but its a 13 year old car, and i thought what the hell lets see how this goes rather than spend £1100+ on a car which will then still only be worth £2000 max.

Any help apreciated.

Thanks.

take the ecu back and get a refund it wont work on your car as the wiring on you year car is different to the import wiring amongst other things.

I read (and now cannot find where) that the wiring in any 3-plug 1997/1998 ECU will match the wiring in my car, I probably read wrong.

Would a 1S or even a 6S work ?

yeah your wrong there is not a lot of difference in the wiring, the main difference is the map on the ecu and the ancillaries i know the turbo will be different the, maf will and injectors are most likely to be different as well, so i can still tell you hoe to wire it up if you like as long as you don't mind it going bang not long after.
