Car Running Dodgy
Hi people, Any help would be appriciated. I have a 1998 Impreza Turbo 2000 AWD and have problems with the running of the car. When I drive it normally it runs fine but when I boost it, it sometimes runs funny when I change into another gear say from 1st to 2nd, when I hit 2nd it cuts out then starts then cuts out then starts and so on. If I pull over and wait 30 seconds then start it and pull off and drive normally it's fine again. It only happens sometimes and runs fine apart from that. I have changed the lambda sensor, the crankshaft sensor, the fuel pump relays, the ht leads and the spark plugs. If anyone has any ideas of what it could be then your response will be very much appriciated. Thanks Kighty

Sounds similar to my (now resolved) MAF issue..... although mine used to cut out under normal driving too. Has/does the CEL light come on? Could be worth seeing if there are any fault codes stored on the ECU - follow this and see what you can find out!

Hi Mate, Thanks for reply. No, I dont have the cel light come on. My mate has a an Impreza Turbo aswell so will have to swap and see if it runs better. It might cut out aswell under normal driving but changed lambda sensor, spark plugs and ht leads recently and havent drove it much but have noticed it after boosting car. Was it the maf sensor itself you changed? and what colour was yours, mines purple. Is this the right colour for my car? Again Thanks for reply.
I have just followed the insructions and it flashed 2 slow times and 3 fast times which suggests what you said with it being the maf sensor.

Yes - was a purple one in mine (98 uk turbo 2000). As soon as i changed it, it was right as rain - so if you have a mate you can swap with to test, then you have the best check right there!!
