Default Removing cam pulleys

Is there a special tool that is used to lock the cams so that the cam pulleys can be un-done. Had a little go at undoing them, but they seem to be torqued more than the aux belt pulley!

Also, I'm pulling the engine appart to inspect damage (found lots of swarf in the sump!). Will I have to remove the pulley off of the oil pump to get the 2 block halfs appart?

Thanks mate

Will the pulley stay on though, or am I going to need to source a puller from somewhere?

There is a squared off section on each cam designed to take a spanner.

Yeah tried, that. The spanner which is the correct size will not sit all the way home and keeps trying to slip off. Don't really want to buy a new set of valves!
