Default Yet another problem.

Hi all
Got another problem with my car.
OK so the car was running fine making 1.2 bar of boost, then a couple of days ago I had my foot down in third, the car was accelerating fine then the power was gone, felt like I had blown an intercooler pipe off. Now the problem is even though no pipes came off and everything looks (in my limited knowledge) to be connected fine the car will only make 0.5 bar at this point it just stops and I mean completely stops accelerating.

Important bits of the spec are
AndyF 18G Turbo
Apexi ECU
Dawes device

So what should I be checking to find the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Would check around the turbo pipework, dawes device etc as .5 bar I think could just be the wastegate cracking pressure

0.5 bar is about (though a little high for a stock, maybe not for the AF hybrid) right for the stock wastegate opening pressure, I wonder if your dawes is Fubar and opening to early (or stuck open!)

Take the Dawes apart and give it a clean with Brake Cleaner or Carb Cleaner (They leave no residue). My Dawes is very sensitive to even the finest particles of dust. Do not be tempted to oil or grease any of the parts.

Hi
took the dawes apart doesnt look like any problems, even tried connecting it backwards. I think this should let the car boost without the dawes controlling the pressure at all. no change. Will try cleaning it later but I'm not that hopeful

Any tips on looking for pipe damage, they all look spot on all connected and I cant see or feel any splits.

Oh and the wastegate opening pressure is 0.5 bar.

Thanks

It sounds more like a problem with boost control instead of a leaking pipe - you could try putting a restrictor inline instead of the dawes device between the turbo compressor housing and actuator and see if more boost is applied, if so, dawes is the issue. Note: If you do this, take it easy when first applying power as you'll not know what your max boost might be.

When my motor had a problem with boost, the garage decided to clamp the wastegate shut to see what boost it would hold....not exactly ideal but it did show that the FMIC pipe was leaking somewhere.

Hi
I think connecting the dawes the wrong way would act just like a restrictor on the pipe i.e not controll the boost at all, I tried this and I still only managed 0.5 bar, so it looks like I may have to go to a garage, was hoping to sort it myself.

Thanks all for the help

Jon
