30,000 mile service cost (sorry, search is not working)
#1
Hi,
According to the book, this service needs oil, filter, coolant, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, transmission oil, brake fluid. The only more expensive service is the 90000 one which needs a cam belt as well, and for that one Sparshatts wanted £550. Parts for the 30000 should come to about £200 at a guess from a parts supplier, so Subaru probably want £300. However, would they stamp the book if you supplied the parts? None of the jobs is difficult, but again, if you want the service record intact you 'll have to pay the money.

My dealer quotes: £ 350.00 + VAT all in
seem to remember paying that for it as well.
As Andy states 45K is the cam belt change (more expensive one) that is more like £ 450.00-500.00
Thats on my MY99 UK Turbo
Sounds like Bell & Colville are having a laugh or misunderstood thew question, surely there cannot be that much difference between Subaru dealers, can there???

Have you tried Cheam Motors?? I used to get my car serviced at Bell & Colvill until I knew better. They charged me £142 for the 7,500 mile service and I was so shocked I just paid it and left. Found out from Cheam Motors that they charge just under £100 for the same service.
A few days later I got a customer satisfaction letter from Bell & Colvill so I told them exactly what I thought of their prices. To my surprise I got a cheque for £45 through the post a few days later with an apology letter saying that they had accidentally charged me the wrong labour rate for the service (The interim service is the most common service so I would have thought the guy on the service department should know the price down to the nearest penny....).
Looking at the receipt for the 1000 mile service I noticed they had overcharged me for that too. I had bent one of the exhaust trims slightly on a tree stump so decided to get it replaced at the service. Didn't notice at the time but they had charged me for two exhaust trims, even though they only fitted one. If my experience of garages is anything to go buy it is pointless complaining so I just take my business elsewhere now.
If you find out the price for this service at Cheam Motors I would be very interested as mine needs this service in a few months too.

Spoke to Charles at Mill Lane the other day. As an existing customer I said I was going to Cheam as they offer the SIDC discount and thus makes the 45k cheaper. Charles matched their price of 380quid inc VAT for the 45k Well happy and top service to Mill Lane - so booked it in for the 10th

380 for the 45K service? Are you sure? I thought 45K was more expensive than the 30K one, and as I said Charles quoted me 430 for the 30K service. I am confused... Can you dig out your 30K receipt and let me know how much you paid for that please?

Cheam charged me about £430 all in for the 30k service, which also included a few extra bits like replacing a couple of blown bulbs and an HT lead. This is quite a big service as all fluids are changed.
The 45k service is the biggy (same as the 90k) as the cambelt is changed.

By the way, B&C also overcharged me for the 7500 service, and I won't be going there again. I felt that I was treated like a second class citizen (or something nasty they'd got on the sole of their shoe) and was wasting their time by only having a Subaru instead of a Lotus.

Mungo,
Cheers for that, at least I know what to roughly expect when mine goes to Cheam in a few months. I can also confirm my experience of B&C is exactly the same as yours which is why I too go to Cheam Motors now.

Mill Lane serviced my car a little over a month ago, and for a 30k service and 1st year body service it cost me £500. Charles did not mention any SIDC discounts, and as soon as I asked about it, he said that he would honour it (obviously only if I could provide proof of being a member ). I think the cost of the 30k service on it's own was around £395.
He does not openly offer the discount (would you in his position? ), but as soon as you mention it was stated in True Grip then you are laughing. He can hardly deny it since he appeared in the following issue!
I hope this helps!

Hi all,
Ok - there is a full page article for Mill Lane in the latest True Grip but at the back with a list of dealers they are not in it. I asked Charles about the discount (on Mon this week) and he said they don't offer it, as did someone else there I spoke to.
I think this is crazy since they've got a full page advert in there but hey - only quoting what came from the horses mouth
I bought the car after 30k so can't comment on that - but I think the 45 is slightly cheaper - what Scott is saying (395 for 30k) will back up.
re the 45k - Cheam quoted me 420 with the 10% SIDC discount, phoned Charles who said Mill Lane is 408 and so should Cheam be???? but he agreed to match the 420 - 10% and so is doing it for 380 Quality

Mungo,
The 45 is not the same as the 90, the 90 is about 700/800 quid
This is because the 30k mile interval (eg 30,60,90) also falls in with the cambelt change (45,90) so its effectively a double service.
The 45 is no fluid changes unless needed, but is expensive due to the cambelt. the 30 is expensive due to the fluids, combine the two together and ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH
Just thought I'd clear that up
Cheers
Neil

Robs - spark plug change looks horrendous but works out quite easily. There have been various threads, but search isn't working. To cut a long story short, you need to remove the battery to get at the nearside plugs and the airfilter box to get at the offside ones. After that I just worked from the top with a conventional ½" drive plug socket, extension and ratchet. Some say working from underneath is easier for some of the plugs but I did mine all from the top. Took 1 hour including checking the gaps on the new ones and cleaning the airfilter box, battery tray, battery, plug leads etc.

Guys
www.subaru4you.co.uk near Bracknell are excellent and offer a 30k service for £354.50 all in which is a bargain.
I have had work done there on my STi5 and they are excellent, and the best thing is that they work evenings and weekends.
Definately worth reccomending......

Cheers Guys!
Had a quote from Cheam: £440ish - 10% SIDC disc = £400. Best quote so far (locally to me). Next call is to Charles of Mill Lane himself.
Has anyone provided their own components for the service? Is this allowed? Does it give a big saving... or just a pain in the Rs?
Postman Pat - nice one mate but my car is under warranty so I have to take to a dealer and get ripped off

408 inc VAT from Lancaster Pangbourne, for the 30k service. Collected it from work and returned it for no extra charge and it got a bit of a clean inside and out (as far as I remember).

I know this has been discussed before but the search is off line
So far been quoted:
Mill Lane £437
Marlboro' £485
Bell & Colvil £580 + VAT
I remember someone was talking about £300ish (or was it a dream? )
Also is it worth bothering providing my own materials / parts or are Subaru prices quite competitive due to bulk purchasing?
The car is a UK MY00.
Thanks for the info!
