Default Boost issues after engine re-fit.

I've recently fitted a new clutch and spigot bearing so the engine had to come out.. Anyhoo on removing the engine the T-piece between the actuator, outlet on the turbo and the boost solenoid broke up into pieces as all the pipes had gone brittle with heat.

I've replaced the pipe work and t-piece but now the car does not seem to be boosting, it used to pull like a train and now it feels really slow, I can hear the turbo spooling but no where near has loud as it used to sound.. I've got a 3" HKS down pipe and it used to sound awesome

Does the bore of the pipes to the solenoid/actuator have any effect on boost levels? The ECU hasnt raised any error codes so I assume everything is wired up right..

Thanks for any help!

Did you put the pipe with the restrictor in it back in the right place?

It should be in the pipe from the compressor nipple to the t-piece.

Andrew...

Like Andrew said - small brass restrictor in the hose going between the T piece and turbo outlet. Needed as a small but vital part of the boost control system.
If it's gone, fear not - they can be got from your friendly local 'stealer' for not much cash!

Cheers,

Stewart.

Cheers guys!

I've still got the pipe, but the pipe is falling to pieces, is it easy to insert it into a new piece of pipe without damaging it?

Very easy.
Just push it out (may have to gently cut and prise the old rubber pipe apart if heat has bonded the restrictor to the pipe) then re-insert into the new hose. I used a little wooden BBQ skewer when I changed mine on my old bugeye - strong enough to push but won't damage the restrictor.

Cheers,

Stewart.

What turbo do you have? I have plenty of TD04 restrictors in good pipework.

I just took the car for a spin with the actuator pipe disconnected and it boost like a **** as expected.. So theres definitely a problem with the either the solenoid or the restrictor is the problem, but as there wasnt one in the pipe it cant have had one in the first place?
