I removed the engine in my Legacy B4 and removed the air con
Are you taking the air con off permanently???
I started with releasing the gas from the Low pressure side there is a grey cap with L on it unscrew and release the gas it is like a bicycle tyre I used a long screw driver and released some let it disperse then release some more.
I then undid the low pressure pipe going to the pump and this comes off with a bit of a pop.
I then did the same with the high pressure which is empty anyway
I only took off the air con pump after I have taken off the inlet manifold as I think there is a bolt you might not be able to get too with the inlet on although I must may be wrong
It is reasonably easy to do though
Hope it helps

Not a guide to removal, but could be useful to find where all the bits are.
