Default ecu error codes

95 classic wrx import

done an error code check and had the following flash up

33 - Vehicle speed sensor 2

22 - Knock sensor

24 - Idle air control solenoid

now i have a feeling i know why im getting 33.......

i tried to swap the needle and unfortunatley the spring un wound.....

so need to get a new one of these.

the other two i have'nt got much of an idea on.

there have been symptoms with the driving of the car such as it will not go above 4000 rpm

when the car gets to 4000 rpm it loses loads of power and seems to sputter like its getting shoots of fuel which puts the driver and passengers into a bit of a head banging session.
wont be long before someone puts in a claim against me for whiplash

basically im driving the car without the turbo at the moment, seems that the car doesnt want me to get any spoil up at all.

any help would be greatly appriciated as im sure you can imagine.

Reset the ECU to clear the codes, drive round for a bit and check the codes again this will make sure none of the codes are old ones.

Are you getting the check engine light coming on?

Sounds like your knock sensor may be faulty and causing the ecu to retard the ignition when accelerating. I had the same problem. Changing the knock sensor worked for me.

The idle control sensor may just need cleaning if it comes back up again.

Well, I'd say you've got more problems than just those error codes listed. Having no boost above 4000 (and below?) would point me towards getting someone to plug into your ecu and see what's going on - dealer or someone else with correct kit. I've had it were my clip on the actuator rod fell off during driving and had little boost but it didn't sputter like yours although it did feel like a dog. Get your fueling, pipework and turbo actuator control checked..

My spluttering was bad but not so much that it caused any head banging!, maybe your coilpacks / plugs need to be looked at as well ?

The ECU automatically limits the RPM to 4000 when the speedo fails. This is deliberate, it prevents the Japanese from bypassing the speed limiter by just unplugging the speedo cable. Fix the speedo and you will get your revs back.

Don't know about the other two error codes though. They may be historic. Try reseting the ECU and see if they come back.

really appreciate all the replies.........

I’ve been able to source a new Speedo from a breakers yard with roughly the same mileage so i shall swap that round first.......

fingers crossed it sorts it out but im really not holding my breath......

at the moment when i start up the car the check engine light comes on and stays on......

Just to throw another spanner in the works............. yesterday my check engine light went out and all my power came back for about 30 min's........

now its gone again........... aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

before i broke the Speedo the check engine light was coming on every now and again but couldn’t feel any difference in the driving and it seemed to go straight out... didn’t know about the error checking back then.....

i recon it was more than likely the knock sensor tho......

I’m definitely going to get it plugged in and get the ecu checked after I’ve swapped the Speedo over........

i have had a friend of mine mention the actuator he said it could be the problem.....

really need to get this sorted soon, feed up of these bloody Porsches and Audi TT drivers getting up my **** and me having to pull in

thanks again guys.......

will let you know if changing the Speedo works .............
