Default Standard BHP of Spec C Circa 04 - 05

Been told it's 330bhp, but some websites suggest 276... any experts care to post the definitive answer?

Depends, the 03/04 are slightly less than the 05 because the 05 had some minor mods, should on decent fuel push out about 300bhp for the 03/04 and about 310 for the 05, my old spec c was running 316 with a panel filter and v power/optimax and octane booster on the jap map

Note that if you run it on tesco's 99/v power on its own, it will probably run lower as it will retard to the fuel, just dont run it on unleaded, it probably could retard that low or it will just go into limp mode, octane booster is still a good idea on a jap map (and even then it can retard)

The book quote is 276bhp, but what they acutally put out is more
On several runs on the rolling road over a few years, mine always pushed out between 312 and 316bhp (when it had not retarded the ecu), but this is with an STi panel filter

That depends on which rolling roads you use Tony. A stock MY06 Spec C puts out ~292BHP on the RR we use.

With only 1.5k on the clock mine put out just over 280bhp, with the miles it improved and with the panel filter it improved even more better top end, didnt feel restricted past 6.5k

There are general opinions as to why certain JDM cara re rated at 280ps - 276bhp.

This includes (cars known to be over 276):
STI's
Evos
Supras
Skylines
300Zx
etc..

The most commonly held one, is that its a 'gentlemens agreement' for japanese manufactuers, but the reasons have never been explained. So it could be another urban myth, (like the classic type RA having an alloy boot).

The other quoted reason is the Japanese touring car championships.

They were split into 2 groups

The [production power] 300bhp+ which featured everything from Ferraris, porsches etc...

The sub 300bhp class which was much more popular with the viewing public.

So, people like Nissan, Toyota etc, rated their cars at 275-ish bhp to be within this category, even if the cars themselves were near the 300 mark actually, as long as it was within a margin of error, it was allowed..

That allowed the supras and skylines to dominate the championships.

276 is never the real figure.
