The turbo will do it, but will your fuelling be up to scratch?

No is the easy answer..

if you have supporting mods and remap you can run that much.. however looking at needing:

uprated intercooler,
injectors as a minimum.. that is without considering coil packs, head gaskets etc etc..

This is exactly why I'd never buy a car with a manual boost controller fitted !!

I think there is nothing wrong with the manual boost controller, if and only if it is used wisely.........

but with boost controller the thread is going to wrong direction, IYSWIM

Simon, please continue
what should be done to be safe running TD05 at high boost , on a ra sti ver2 for example.

what about fuel cut? Unless uv got something that removes it, i dont think the scooby ecu moves fuel cut that much higher than standard. Or am i wrong?

You can always get it altered of course by a specialist

most boost controllers cut when you are running to much boost (you have turnt it up to much) so it just like a fuel cut so turning down you controller that little bit will solve it others have pre-set modes ie 1 bar 1.1 bar etc so you would just switch to another mode

I'm finding this extremely hard to believe. I have never heard of a standard TD05 16G running that much boost. Mine is all but maxed out at 1.5 - 1.55.

I await any experts that know differently....

<---------------- Mine is running very safely with these mods. Never see a knock count over 30 now.

correct me if im wrong but I didnt think the standard MAP sensor could read above 1.2bar so a boost level above this and the ecu aint gonna have a clue how much fuel you need.

not only that I was told the standard 380 injectors would be maxxed out at 1.2 bar.

I may well be wrong but I think you should find out the answers to the above from an expert before your engine decides to eat itself.

If you look at the compressor map for a TD05H-16G, it is absolutely maxed at 1.8 bar IIRC, way down on efficiency and basically just spitting out hot air, and it's nowhere near maximum airflow either.

I've regularly seen WRX detting at 1.1bar unless the timing is adjusted to suite.
you can put a fuel reg on but the ECU will still try and run what the map tells it too.

People have upped their boost successfully, but I have not heard anyone on here going any higher than 1.3 bar without re-mapping.

The guy I am referring to runs a Z4 ECU with 1.3 bar boost and he 'says' he has no detonation and 319 bhp, backed up by a RR report. Whether you choose to believe it is up to you. However, if you do decide to go mad with the boost level you will be taking a risk with your engine.

Although the flat 4 is reliable it is already in a high state of tune and increasing boost manually is risky. If you do decide to go ahead you will need an FCD, as the ECU will cut fuel at 1.1 bar.

Each to there own. .

I ran 1.5-1.6 bar through a TD05 16g in my last car which was a 1995 WRX with no probs, obviously running a hell of a lot of other mods to support.

fmic, 550 injectors, walbro pump, decat, air filter, mappable ecu.. upto about 1.4bar.. may need a z32 maf to go higher as the maf sensor will be maxxed out.

Agree a manual boost controller can be put to very good use if used sensibly and the fuelling set up correctly.

I already got:
1. Apexi PFC + Controller
2. Hybrid's new RS spec
3. 650cc Sard Injectors
4. Walbro 341
5. Sard Fuel Pressure regulator
6. Trust greddy power revolution2 turboback
7. Apexi Power intake
8. ZT2 wideband

Can't wait to put all above on my car. Just waiting for some bits.

or go for a mappable ecu which is MAP sensor based and not MAF ?

Yes.. but Apexi PowerFC + z32 maf is a lot cheaper than any MAP based ecu.

Does that include an upgraded MAP sensor? Pre-97 sensor only reads to 1.23bar (ish) so if you want to run more on a MAP based ECU you need another MAP sensor fitting.

Does anyone know if the ESL live map is MAP or MAF based?

(Also I noticed a jolly green wagon in Allenton today)

I would say thats MAF based, as it uses the std ecu which in turn uses the std MAF.

and the simtek ecu package does not include the MAP sensor, its 50quid + vat.
