Advice on what spec this is?!?!
Hi,
Just bought a 93 WRX which has been modified a little and would like to know if anyone can identify the turbo and if possible point me in the right direction for next mods....
Has been quoted to be running 325bhp from the following mods:
"Large" Turbo (See pics)
1.0 Bar Actuator
HKS Induction Kit
HKS Iridium Plugs
450cc Injectors
Twin-Port Downpipe
HKS SUperdrager Backbox
HKS Superdrager De-Cat Centre Pipe
Walbro Fuel Pump
Boost gauge shows ~7psi in 1st gear and ~9psi in the rest. Car has a power surge at 4800rpm and pulls hard to over 6500rpm.
Can anyone identify the turbo??
Is the power figure likely??
Whats my next step??
Whats my limitation before internals??
Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks guys :-)

I reckon you may have an altered ecu as the 93wrx runs 380cc injectors as standard.
The turbo should have some id marks on it normally on the front (whilst looking a the engine bay.
Power probably but they've still kept the original top mount which is going to limit it as they aren't the best.
First thing to do is check the ecu for a chip

Hi mate,
Thanks for the reply!!
Sorry for got to mention that the car was mapped by Power Engineering, although I've not got a clue what chip they've used!?!?!?!
It's a bit of a buggerance getting to the tubby, can't see any marks :-(

It looks like an MHI, so to get that power (if true) it would be a TD05, but the only way to tell is from the hard to get at label.
That top mount is FUBAR, at least replace it with one with decent fins!

Thanks Rookie,
Yeah I'm thinking of fitting a FMIC straight away. Have seen a few kits about and they;re not expensive anymore so will probably order 1 today.
What are the chances of me needing a remap with fitting a FMIC?? I've got my eye on a wide-band AFR metr & sensor, you reckon I can get away with keeping an eye on fuelling instead?!?!
Would love to get it down to Power Engineering for a remap but I'm wanting to do a few other bits 1st and then get it mapped.
Boost still seems low at 9psi, or is that just because its got the bigger turbo on it??
Cheers buddy,
Jay

WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - As above, 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi
These figures are for the standard early ecus so 9 psi is a bit low perhaps.
Speak to Power Engineering to see if they can remap the chip they put in (open up the ecu to see what it is first though).
TBH do everything else before fitting the FMIC and get a remap done at the same time imo.

Might have to go get my tools out and have a peek at the ECU.
I'm going for equal length manifold/headers, up-pipe, FMIC and water/alcohol spray onto the FMIC (moving pipework from scoop to bumper).
I'm hoping that will put me at the limit for gearbox & internals :-)

Already got a few TSL goodies, including anti-dive kit
Brakes are now AP items at front, leaving rears as standard.
Also got a JUN superlight flywheel & AP 6-paddle clutch (bloody horrible!!).
Oh, and a Blitz Super Sound BOV which took AGES to get working right, scoobys dont like BOV's do they?!?!

Got it nice now though and pickup through the gears is improved slightly, boost is there instantly now whereas before there was a very slight delay after changing gear!!
