What colour smoke?

(white is water, black is fuel, blue is oil) blocked (even only slightly) turbo oil drains will cause blue smoke, and could explain why it was breifly better after you fitted the new one!

Its seems strange for it to clear after fitting the replacement turbo and then a week later go back to how it was before. It would possibly indicate the second unit is faulty, what symptoms did you get first time round?
