Default Fuel pump

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a Walbro Fuel pump as getting car remapped later in the year. However, I'm no mechanic and was wondering how difficult these things are to fit. Will I need to go to a garage or could I do it myself following instructions?

Cheers,

Michael

Also, do I need to replace the tank gasket if I upgrade the fuel pump?

scoobyclinic did mine in about 45 minutes so shouldnt cost you too much to have fitted by professionally. I was worried that if i did it i would somehow set the car on fire so decided to give it a miss.

Tank gasket should be fine, just be careful removing and refitting the pump assembly as you can tear the gasket around the holes if it sticks.

Changing the pump is easy as long as you have the confidence to give it a go.

As mentioned previously just be careful when removing the pump assembly from the tank. Not just for the gasket but also because you can easily bend the float arm meaning you will never have an accurate view of how much fuel you have left!

You won't need to change the tank gasket.

Ok thanks everyone.

One final question, do I really need to upgrade the standard STI fuel pump before remapping? I'm looking for about 320-340bhp as on standard set up and don't want to spoil the handling. I'm conscious they upgrade as part of the PPP...

It does need doing then, I haven't got the PPP but was aware that they upgrade the fuel pump when doing that. Sorry, realise now that didn't read well.

Thanks again for advice.
