Default 03 JDM STI - Remap really needed?

hi guys

Picking up my 03 Spec-c next week.

Then i am off the the 'ring the following week.

Whats the score with fuel's and remaps etc?

Do i need to get the car remapped to UK fuel, or will it run fine on 98 or 99ron?

If not, what can i do to overcome the problem until i get back from Germany and can book it in?

Octane Booster? if so, how much and which ones to people use?

Sorry for the questions, i did try and search it, but without much success.

Thanks

Mat

Most of the fuel around the ring is 98 octane - normally fine for a UK car but yours will have been built for 100 octane.

You could take Millers Octane Boost - 1 bottle per tank adds 2 octane thereby making it equivalent to 100 octane and will help protect it on the ring from Det.

If you travel slightly north of the circuit (about 20 min drive) on the way up to Rodelbahn - there is a Shell Garage selling Vpower 100 octane.

It will run on the lower octane stuff but I wouldnt do the Ring without 100 octane in there.

Have a great trip though ... cant wait to my next trip (77 days to go)

ok mate, many thanks for the info.

Is Millers readily available, from say Halfords etc? or is it a specialist item?

As long as your car retains the std exhaust it will be fine without a remap.

All the octane booster in the world will not control the potentially harmful boost spikes you will get on track if it has had a decat fitted.

Car has a cat-back exhaust (Ganador Titanium) but the standard cat is still in place.

So in theory, a bit of octane booster, cat in place, i should be good?

Ran my MY03 Spec C on optimax and octane booster for over 3 years (standard jap map) with a panel filter and back box without any real issues, you can run these on 98 ron fuel but the ecu will retard down to compensate, losses of 40bhp have been seen by me even with octane booster when the ecu has seen a problem.
The only down side is that I never really felt the car lose that power because it was so progressive though the power band, and there is no real easy fix for resetting the ecu (by laptop is best or disconnecting the battery for the factory settings).
