Default Piston slap or something else ?

Piston slap ! a bit of a strange topic, I have read so many diff accounts of this I'm trying to figure out if my car suffers from this.

When I run it from cold I can hear like a ticking/clicking noise from the engine that increases/decreases with speed, goes away when car is worn. However some accounts of piston slap say that it should be a banging or knocking sort of noise.

Also, just sitting at idle i can hear nothing, surely i should hear it still ?

Does anyone have a sound file of it ? or any idea what my noise could be ? tappets ? lifters ?

Tried a search on this and there are so many diff accts and none of the sound files that I found work

Cheers

Steve

Is that normally loud enough to hear from inside the car ? Cant remember it being like that when I bought it. Cant hear the noise when idling or revving the engine in neutral.

Im not much of a mechanic tho !

Ta for that, I'm not sure thats what mine is now, its far more of a clicking/ticking sort of noise and it does not occur unless you are moving.

Can anyone confirm if piston slap would be heard idling or just revving the car in neutral ? (which i take it that clip was)

Thanks

Steve

Yes you hear it when idling only lasts for a few minutes until the engine warms up.

If it's more of a clicking/tapping sound it could be worn tappets

I heard a scooby doing this the other day, it would get on my nerves
