Default vf35 squeel?

Hi all, couple of questions- what is the safe max boost on a vf35?. i am currently reaching 1.55 bar. problem is i am getting this squeel, in 3rd,4th,5th and 6th, at what looks like full boost, approx 3000rpm-4000rpm. also noticed a bit of a flat spot at these revs, as if it is pulling back? the squeel sounds like air escaping under pressure. do you think it could be loose pipe somewhere? i have tightened the obvious ones up and have done the i/cooler pipes under the i/cooler. some one said it may be turbo on its way out . it doesn't smoke and to be honest absolutely flies. i have changed the dump valve and is the same. only seem to do it on full whack for a second, any ideas? could it be exhaust related, as in leak? car is a mapped 53STi.

Cheers

The VF35 is a bit of a noisy turbo (I actually like it..) especially when giving it WOT at ~3k. It's down to how quick the turbo spools IMO.

I've had fellow scoob owners (none VF35) who've been in my car and recon I've got a boost leak, which I haven't..

Don't worry about it, if it drives like you claim it's fine..

BTW my Blitz boost gauge shows mines running 1.5bar peak, however it apparently over reads by ~0.1bar (according to Bob Rawles boost gauge).

One thing, does the boost gauge flutter at all..?

Lee,

The VF 35 is indeed a noisy little thing (I too like it) If it's just a chuffing sound with no problems with power delivery it's probably nothing to worry about.

However, the VF35 is prone to compressor surge, if the car is hesitating at WOT then it could mean that it's serious enough to be bad for your turbo/engine.

I'd get it checked out with your mapper.

I don't know what the max safe boost is on a 35. Mine is mapped to 1.35 peak. My understanding is that this is quite common and not many I know of have above 1.4 bar. 1.5 sounds high to me!

Stand to be corrected though!

Mine was mapped to 1.4 bar. IIRC in its original car it runs around 1.2 bar max, although I could be wrong. 1.5 bar is probably too far.

I got a psi3 secs monitor fitted but cant read and drive, will have to wait to get a suitable passenger to read it . I'm one of them who hears a noise and then dwells on it until i know what it is . it doin' me head in

You mean easy to provoke and noisy when provoked!!

If it was just a noise, I'd say don't worry, but if there are hiccups in power delivery, I'd say this should be looked at!

i'm not sure what pressure mine is running, but its on a uk w reg turbo 2000 giving 303 bhp, what that will apply to as boost i don't know? but in 3rd when i give it death it screams like a gooden, but no power loss. When you pass some1 you know that's the noise you want them to hear! Although it did shock me the first time i heard it. My mrs was in the car and commented with her full mechanical experience 'ooh that doesn't sound right' the day i had the car back from tuning! Still does it now, and i'm use to it. (the car not the mrs)

cheers for the replies fellas. I have mailed my mapper and await his response. If 1.55bar is to high i might get the boost lowered abit just to be safe.
