Did mine just over a week ago. We jacked the car up from the front about a foot and a half and placed axle stands under the wishbone arms. Then we jacked the rear while the front was on axle stands to get the propshaft off. I got to be honest removing the gearbox on axle stands is not ideal but i had broken 2 gears so we couldn't get the car to the ramps. It took us about 2 hours to get the gearbox out after dealing with a few stubborn bolts.

To be honest on high lift ramps i reckon its possible to have the gear box out in just over an hour. Much easier than working on your back. I just got desperate so it had to be the axle stands and a jack.

Out in an hour??? You must be joking!! If your on a four post lift you need to
be able to jack the front wheels clear to pull out the drive shafts. Used a 4
poster when i done mine and it had a jack at the front of the lift so it was ne
bother. still took me at least two hours to get it out! if you cant get a lift, it
would have to be on stands not a ramp.

I have this down to a fine art after 5 'sessions'.
I have some VERY tall axle stands (from a Prodrive sale of all places) which get the car up by 24'' or so by repeated jacking up.
I invested in a Draper transmission Jack witha 'V' top plate and this allows the trans to come down and out in one simple safe move once all the gummin's is all off.
I always work on my cars on my own, hate company unless i trust them implicitly.
This frees the front wheels to be split off the wish bones, the d/p to be off etc.
I could NEVER do this job in an hour! Takes me about 2.5 from jacking to looking at a bare flywheel.
To answer a question above:
You will need a good accurate alignment tool for the clutch change.
Graham.
ps:
If the box has never been off before be ready for some serious fighting with the 2 location dowls.
