boost pressures
hi, i own an sti v3 wagon 1997 and i've been told that boost is normally 1.15bar, but mine's does max boost 1.4bar and continious 1.15bar. i've checked the ECU with a mate who's engineer if it was chipped but the ECU is totally stock!
the only thing i've seen is that the exhaust is an Fujitsubo 3" s/s cat back.
can any1 tell me if is it normal to have that boost (car runs very fine, allways use v-power, here in Belgium and Germany is 100ron).
thanks
Daniel

look under the bonnet at the drivers side strut tower, on the side there should be a cylindrical shape solenoid with 2 or 3 pipes coming off it, (or maybe no pipes coming off in your case)
hope this helps.....hard to explain

just found this pic,
if you look just left of the air filter you can see 2 blue pipes close together, in between those pipes you can see the boost solenoid (cylinder shape)
check/trace pipework from there (if any)
(yours will look slighlty different from this pic as that one has a apexi solenoid on as well, but don't worry about that)

thanks for the pic!
i've checked under the hood and found the boost solenoid, and yes there's 2 rubber pipes going out the valve, one going to the T and the other one to the cylinder head block (i think it's that).
so now, why i still have this boost???

a lot of people around here think that's not normal for a stock ECU but that's the way it is!!
i'm going in about 2 weeks to do a dyno sesion to check power/torque.
i'll tell what about.
cheers mate

Can't tell you why your car is boosting to 1.4bar but can tell you that I ran a MY97 STi with Blitz boost controller set at 1.3bar. Had it checked out for fuelling, det, etc and no probs. Ran it like that for 40k before selling on. 1.4bar may be pushing it?! I think '911' who posts on here had a version 3 running high boost - he is probably more equipped to answer.
Can't remember where fuel cut is set on these? 1.5bar?

you've changed the exhaust hence reducing the back pressure - this means the turbo is spinning more and makes boost before the ECU notices and reins it back to what it should be. It is spiking in other words and needs a remap to smooth it off and get the best from it.

I should add that my gauge is in kg/cm2 so 1.4 = 1.37bar, plus it is possible for gauges to read over by a little, I'm told. The point where the reading is taken may also be a factor. I think mine is T'd off from the MAP sensor line from the inlet manifold, although I haven't looked too closely at it.

Yep, same as yours. Mine is totally standard including exhaust. Feels great but I can't fully enjoy it until I'm sure something isn't going to go pop. No sign of boost cut.
