Apparently according to the subaru garage they suspect there is a small leak in the engine breather plate and oils coming out.Is this a major problem or not.....ive been scamed b4 by the garage and dont wana cop out unless it is 100% must do thing. It may not even be the breather plate???

Some with Engine Knoledge Please Help....

Well with my limited amount of engine knowledge, I don't even know what a breather plate is. I know common places where oil might leak, the most common being the driver's side rocker cover gasket, but an 'oil breather plate'? What's that? If they've stitched you up before, take the car away and go elsewhere.

if it was leaking i would have thought you have seen oil on the steering rack or on the bottom subframe .how much oil are you losing and what did the car go in for originally?

Sounds like you need a second opinion, where abouts are you? I'm sure there will be a trusted company not too far away that a Scoobynetter can recommend.

You could try Len at Subaru4You in Newbury then. He has been looking after my car for the last 5 -6 years. Subaru4you - an alternative to main dealers. Hope this helps.

And correct me if I'm wrong but the worst that could happen if it leaks oil into the bellhousing is that the clutch will slip. Changing the clutch is a might-as-well job once you've got the gearbox off anyway. Or to put it another way, even if it is leaking oil, you might as well run it until it goes wrong as it'll be the same job whether you fix it now or later, and you might not need to do it at all. In my non-expert opinion of course.
