Boost Solenoid or associated pipework maybe? Try giving it all a clean through. On my 93WRX the bottom pipe from the Boost Solenoid has a restrictor inside, check this is not blocked too.

Are all the pipes OE?

I have just cleaned it, but i have replaced the vacuum hoses with samco stuff not the oe, i will try this but it was boosting to 0.8 before without a problem? just soedn't want to go higher?

I will try and fit the originals to see if it makes a difference.

I assume the restrictor is the same size for the w4 and the Z4 ecu?

All the same matey. Just replace the bottom hose on the BCS and try that.

Or disconnect the bottom hose and take her for a short drive, it should easily overboost..

Refit the original pipework for starters.

Its a 0.87 bar map, so not that far off once you take into account the likely accuracy of the boost gauge.

Yeah so its just under 0.1 bar and on the boost guage (a blitz so should be accurate) its not going past 0.8.

The RR printout shows the boost spike to 0.85 when it first comes in then tails off to 0.8 then from about 6 / 6.5k drops to under 0.8.

I might try reseting it as well, but seeing as the ecu has just been put in i wouldn't have thought this would make a difference, would it ?

Don't think the reset would be worth it but you could try.
WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi
As you can see the boost does drop off at at higher revs

256bhp = 260ps @ 0.876 bar

Reckon i'd be getting 256 if i had 0.87, and not 0.8!

How much is a dawes device and where abouts can you get them ?

Anyone tried one of these? At the end of the day i guess its just a boost controller, either it consistantly bleeds off the air or is doesn't!!

I fitted one. Search for 3BarRacing, the new name for Dawes. I fitted mine to cure a similar problem to yours. I have set it to run with my ESL chip at 1.05-1.1 bar. No probs at all. Fast spool on the turbo. No spike. Very good, just don't go mad with the boost level.

I think mine was £30 inc delivery, arrived within a few days.

I see thanks!

So does this actually "bleed" off any boost?

Its not a bleed valve, hence lack of spike. Works for me, very pleased with it, just set it and left it. Its bypassed the problem, max boost is as it should be, a quick spool, sorted.

Check out the website, it explains how its works.

This chip can run the car safely at 1 bar btw and that's advice from a gent who rebuilds these cars every day and that's good for 270-280bhp as well!

Claaarkio is using the Z4 which shouldn't be set any higher than 0.9bar..

I did follow up by saying 'just kidding'.

So at what pressure are you getting 330bhp?
