Default Intercooler arms

Can someone do me a big favour and measure the distance between the mounting point for the intercooler and the nearest bolt on the arm on the near side...

On my FSTi it is 16cm and I am trying to fit an ISTi intercooler, at the moment it would appear that the arm needs to be about 2cm longer. I just want to confirm that an Impreza STI intercooler arm is longer than the Forester....

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Also when i fitted the intercooler i found it easier to unbolt the nearside bracket from the engine otherwise it's a very very very tight fit

Hi Granby,

How long is your throttle housing pipe? Mine is about 5cm. I just cannot see how it is going to go on. Got to admit that on the near side I thought I might get it on, but on the turbo side there is no way it is going on....

Then I am confused Ian...

On the intercooler on the turbo side it is 6.5cm from the alu joint and the mount (nearest edge), and on the near side 10cm from edge joint to mount....is this the same?

(Reason I ask is that I know that the Forester intercooler is a WRX one, but with these mounts welded in a different location...)

You've confused me now
On the O/S mount does it have 2 sets of holes for you to bolt the intercooler to as the STi intercooler is wider aswell as deeper than the WRX one, other than that without actually looking at the car i can't really say whats wrong

It has the extra hole yes, but it is inline with the hole that is there now (if that makes sense)......

Forester STi Intercooler - ScoobyMods

Not sure if you are on this forum Ian, but it clearly shows the difference in FSTI and WRX intercoolers. Same intercooler, different mount point..

When you say inline do you mean from front to back or side to side

Doooh! Actually from the scoobymods thread I can see that both sides are different in comparison with a WRX intercooler. So one can assume that if you did a straight swap (WRX to STI) then my arms are the wrong length.....

But how can your measurement be 16cm...?

But why would you have an extra hole for an ISTI intercooler if the mounts are the wrong length and it wouldnt fit....

Head hurts now!

I've added a couple of more photos from the scoobymods thread above. It must be that the arms are different lengths, so I will have to just order Impreza ones I guess.....

I have seen the light I think...

I think the extra hole is for an XT type intercooler (which is wider, but smaller) rather than a STI type....

....Now that would make sense!

OK, I ordered Impreza arms, which were a few mm different from what I had, but not bridging the 2cm gap.....now I am confused.

Does anyone know if there were any different variants of intercooler on a new age, specifically if the intercooler changed from 2.0l to 2.5l?

Cheers,

Mark

Cheers Ian.

I am wondering if either the intercooler design changed at 2.5l, or if the mounting hole on the head is in a different location on a 2.5l, as it seems that the arms did not change length...
