Car Running hot all of a sudden. Whys that?
Hi guys,
I've got a Version 2 Impreza WRX currently standard, bar a filter and exhaust.
My car was running fine two weeks ago. I parked it up, went on holiday for two weeks, came back and as soon as I got into the car, well within a mile, the temp guage went nearly 3/4 to hot and on occasion went two dots away from hot. It's alsway sat half way and never any higher.
Whats up with that? I've checked under the bonnet, I've no water leaks, or bubbles in the header tank. The fan are working, and aren't always on as I would be expect if it was truly that hot.
I'm thinking that the temp guage may be broke, or a temp sensor? Can anyone shed some light or give some advice on a simple test to find out for sure before I take a trip to the guage to sort it.
Cheers Dan.

take the thermostat out(very easy to do) and place it in a basin of hot water(more than 88 degrees). If it opens then the problem is not the thermostat and more likely the temp sensor which is number 8 in the diagram

You can tell if the thermostat is opening by checking the return pipe to the rad, there is no need to remove it. If it’s not opening it will stay cold or sticking then just warm.
