boost gauge readings
#1
i've just fitted a boost gauge to a MY99 turbo. I was wondering what it should be reading when at idle, full throttle etc.
also does the level of boost alter when the car is cold ?
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
The boost gauge should be showing zero when idling as there won't be any positive pressure being created by the turbo.
As for full throttle, that will be different for each car and will be dependant on any modifications made, weather etc.
The weather makes a BIG difference. If it's foggy and cold outside, the car will produce more positive boost than if it's a warm sunny day.
Basically, there are no hard and fast rules.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
Cheers

Hi
When i first start the car in the morning, ie when the engine is cold, my guage reads -15 at idle. When its warmed up it reads -20 at idle. At full boost it peaks at 15 and drops to hold at 14, bare in mind these figures are for winter weather. Oh and all are in Psi.
Hope this helps
