Tyres on my MY01 WRX are inflated to correct pressure but the steering twitches a lot, especially on an uneven (not rough) road serface. Is this normal for 17 inch rims or do they run better on lower pressures.

Any one else had this problem.

Wheels and tyres are OE 17 inch

 

Yes this is normal, mine tram lines really bad on the inside lane of a motorway (not that i'm there much)Characteristic of the car.
Will react to any uneven or rough surface.
Run 35 psi front / 33 psi rear.

I had the same problem on my wrx01. It started to be really noticeable at 4500Kms. Tyres: Bridgestones on 17" wheels. This was getting worse and worse. As they were quite burned out, I changed my tyre last week - at 22500kms. I am now equiped with P9000. Problems is almost gone.

Agree with the above really.

If you are running OE tyres Ie Bridgestone RE010's or RE011's they tramline badly. I find more so when cold.

When you change your tyres go for something like Goodyear Eagle F1's, Bridgestone SO2's or SO3's or Toyo Proxes T-1's. They seem to be the favourites for most and almost eliminate the effect.

I have had Eagle F1's on my last 2 cars and will go back to them when my OE tyres have given up. Which won't be long

You're dead right - they do tramline like errrrr a tram when they're cold. It's not nearly as noticable when the tyres have warmed up.

I think the Bridgestone S03 are very good! I didn't bought them because... I really didn't like the pattern ;-{... Well quite stupid reason isn't? ;-]. Anyway, I am happy with my SP9000, very good grip... and no more tram lines...

Heu... I don't have any pictures... Anyway, pattern liking is really a kind of subjective stuff ;-).

Yes it's about the Dunlop SP9000.

I am pretty sure the S03 with its double 'coat' principle is a very good tyre. Its tread pattern is - at least here - considered to be a very performant one.

Too bad for me that I don't like the pattern ;-)

I also had in mind the Michelin Pilote Sport. But finally the middle course channel hurt my eyes ;-))

anyone run any differnt tyre pressures than recommended on the P1? If so what pressures?
