Default Changing oil on 02 WRX

Anything mysterious I should know about before I change it? I am not up on these boxer engines, is it no different than a flat 4?

Oil filler cap off
dip stick out
drain out old oil
remove oil filter
replace drain plug
fill new filter with fresh oil
screw new filter on
refill with oil
check level

Bobs yer auntie?

I have read some strange threads on here regarding oil changes so I am a bit concerned
The other thing is oil ytpe ?

i have been told everything from 5-40 to 5-50 but the book says 10-40 so I am going for 10-40 fully synthetic, is that the job?

That about sums it up. If you do a search on here you will find all sorts of comments about do you or don't you pre-fill the oil filter. My view is it will do no harm filling it and it gives you something to do whilst letting the oil drain.

Well.. I changed the oil on my 02 WRX and did pretty much exactly what you described on your list and haven’t had a single problem since! (not that I expected to!) I was contemplating doing all this crank sensor unplugging/cracking but in the end couldn’t be arsed!

As for oil, I put in Silkolene 5-40 (I believe the manual recommends 5-30) and it runs like a dream!
