Question sti v3 1997 ECU

i've an stiv3 wagon v-limited, he has fujitsubo ss cat back 3" exhaust, running 1.4bar, 1.15bar continious.
my question is where is located the ECU and identification, and how to know if the ECU has been chipped?
thanks

Under the passenger footwell there is a kickplate, remove it and the ECU is under it, ECU ident is on top of it.
Just open up the ecu, take a piccy, post it on here and see if someone recognises it.If it is the same as the early ecus then it may have a spare slot on the bottom right (or it may have a chip in the slot)

Yep just pull back the carpet (you may have few plastic plugs to remove to mke it easy) it will be obvious what you need to remove to see the ecu.

STi V3 wagon should have a 1S ecu. It is a little different to the earlier (92-96) ecus, it does not have an EPROM slot. The ECU should have a single board, with two rows of soldered holes at the far end of the ECU (opposite side to the connectors). If there is a second board attached here, then it has been chipped.

Very little option for mapping these ECUs. One or two places do chips for them, but you can pick up an Apexi PFC for this model year at a similar price to what you would pay for a chip.

i've removed the footwell this morning and took a pic, my ecu is an 6S, are you sure that sti v3 wagon have 1S?
so wich model does have 6S ecu??
1.4 is max boost not continious, 1.15 is continious.
i haven't opened the ECU yet as, i'm sorry but overthere nobody knows about sti classics so don't want to damage the ecu.
is there any risk opening the ECU, electrical surge, etc...?
tell me what

When i've removed my ecu i disconnected the battery just in case but opening the ecu there shouldn't be any electrical surge.
6s is from a 1997 type r i think

waoow!! is it normal to find this kind of ecu in a sti wagon? does it means that the engine has been swapped for a type r one?
how to know if it is normal sti v3 engine or type r v3?

No as Sprint chief said you should have a 1S.
On the engine front i have no idea i sorry but as they are both STI engines i guess there is no difference but take it to a scooby specialist to get a definative answer.

I have a saloon sti 3, when i removed the ecu it wa a 6S. So pretty sure all the sti 3's should have the 6S ecu as they all run the same power.

My ECU from a '97 STi V3 wagon is a 6S. As standard the car made 294 bhp. - Not sure what boost it was running though.

this is an early ecu but check the bottom right hand side for the 2 rows of solder (going from left to right) if it's like this piccy it's standard if it has something on those solder lines it's got an aftermarket chip.

The 97 STi 3, saloon, wagon, type R and RA should have an ECU 6S.
Standard boost as above is just over 1 bar and to run over about 1.25-1.3 bar you will need a fuel cut defender.
Continuos high boost running on any Classic Scoob is not a good idea as it can result in engine failure. For a start your TMIC is already inadequate at O/E boost. I suggest you monitor induction charge temperatures if you plan to do continuos high boost or lift the boost to 1.45 bar.
On an STi 3 Wagon I run 1.4 bar max but it is not normally necessary to run that boost except for occassional overtaking manouvers.

I should have added that I would not recommend running 1.4 bar unless you are able to monitor for DET and wide band AFRs during setting up. I run on Shell V-Power plus 1-2 mls/l NF and consider this is necessary for good engine life.
335 bhp and 333-338 ft lbs. Standard ECU, TMIC, Injectors and turbo.

I also have 6S in my STI v3 wagon. It was however chipped. Looks like a company called K-max did the job on the ECU. if you remove the 6 screws you can tell as there will be the board shown in the pic above plus an additional board on top of it. At least mine is. I really wish it was stock. In the US we have the worst gas in the world. Specifically California. Pretty sure I'll be picking up a Power FC to combat this short coming as 100 octane is 3 times as much as pump premium. grrrr. Good luck!

cheers

Hi Harvey, don't you remember me? the guy from Belgium with the sti v3 wagon v-limited?
so, as i said the continious boost is about 1.1bar, max is about 1.4bar when i reach some rpm and floor the pedal!
so it's why i'm asking if the car has been chipped as tghe max boost is high!
next week i'll remove the ECU and open it to check!
cheers

Would a chipped 6S run fine on cold start map but then run rough at temp if it was mapped to jap fuel or would just run rough form the start?
