Default no lambda

Just had my engine rebuilt and got the mechanic to fit my decat at the same time.
When I got it back, noticed the lamda was not connected.Asked the mechanic why and he told me the lamda did nothing when used with a decat...is he right and if not, what will be the outcome of no lambda?
Thanks

Depending on the car you will have two lambdas. One just after the turbo and one after the cat. The lambda after the turbo must stay fitted however the second can be removed if fitting a downpipe but ideally would still be connected.

If your running standard engine management then you would get a cel without a lambada. If it is an early classic then the sensor will be in your headers and the sensor in the downpipe is the cat on fire sensor which is not used when you a decat fitted.

'cat on fire' sensor? Would that be the one on the end of a braided hose, with a connector up by the suspension turret? My '95 WRX decat has that one disconnected, which has been looped around the brake reservoir to keep it out of trouble. Wondered what is was...

Thanks. Can it be disconnected and removed, or would that generate a fault and displaying the cel?

Hi all,
The car is a '99 UK classic PPP.It only has one lambda by the manifold.
