Default newbie with a wrx problem.

Hi everyone im new here and had my impreza wrx import for around 3 months so i dont now to much about them.

well it all started last week i had an oil change by subaru specialists near by. all was well and the morning after i checked the oil to see if it had droped alot from the cold. the oil was so thin i couldnt really see where the mark was so i toped up anyway just to make sure.

now when i come to start it when its cold the car fires up fine but it nearly dies for about 4 seconds just sitting above no revs then goes back to normal.

i dont no whats going on but maybe i have overfilled and the oil when cold is thicker and may be blocking something. today when i started it i heard a few squeky noises from the drivers side near the boost solinoid.

my cars a standerd 96 wrx import just had new maf, new pugs and new crank sensor.

please any info would be great!

thanks c.

how much oil did you put in, are you still runing with the standard air filter????
all scoobies knock when they are cold (piston slap) is your intercooler blocked at all, if you dont thing that it is runing right then take it back to subaru and ask them to hook it up to the computer........

Apparently if you over fill the oil it can make its way to the boost solenoid, it'll then need cleaning out, loads of posts on here telling you how.

Hi and thanks for youre response i do have a simota peformance air filter but thats all. i put at least a cup full in (bit silly of me really) but i didnt think it would do any harm.
phoned the people who did the change and they say dont worry its probly the cold weather! but its never done it before even in colder conditions.
could the boost solinoied cause bad cold starting probs?

thanks again c.

ps. no engine light comes on!

try doing as matt said, if that doesn't work, get the car started leave it running till its warm then take it for a blow out, let it cool right down, and see if does it again when you try start it...

Hi again cleaned out the boost solinoid , idle control valve and a few pipes. checked the oil and it looks just fine so i dont think its from overfilling.

started fine today but it was quite warmish over here and the problem only occurs when really cold.

i think my icv mite have been sticking because it was a bit dirty we shall see when the next cold morning comes i suppose.

any one else had this problem?

thanks c.

I would'nt worry too much. I classic doesn't like cold mornings either. Its fine after 2-3 miles. No stalling but it very unresponsive on the throttle until warm.

ok to shed a little more light on this problem ... started my car up this afternoon nice and warm started up fine no probs and no dodgy idle.

gave her a good clean with a huge hose we have at work. started her up again and guess what happens yep dodgy idle for a few secs then back to normal.

so im thinking that its an electrical bit in the engine that when it gets wet ie damp on cold mornings it plays up for a bit.

has anyone got any ideas? what could it be?

thanks c.
